AsianInNY hosted our 4th Fashion Shows in time for New York Fashion Week.  As a perennial favorite, this year’s fashion shows have gotten bigger and better.

The spotlight falls on models showcasing amazing Asian designers, including Meiling Chen’s FEARLESS DREAMER Collection, menswear designer Ninh Nguyen’s NINH Collection, Charmaine Ho’s Me Char handbags, “String Theory” jewelry by Jing He, and Xing Xu’s Kallisti Jewelry. 30 Models also rocked tresses and looks with amazing hair and make-up provided by Haruo Noro Salon.

A successful fashion show takes a lot of preparation and hair/make-up is the key when beautiful models walk out the runway. No one sees how hard hair stylists and makeup artists work at the backstage. Our shout out to all the 7 Haruo Noro Salon hair stylists (Sausan Helou, Karen Skolski, Janet Juhami, Yukari Shirakawa, Yuka Inada, Viviana Briseno and Eddie Ngai) who started working at 4:30pm till 10pm on AsianInNY’s Fashion Shows.

Also, our sincere appreciation to the beautiful make-up artists Wenya Chang (lead make-up artist of Haruo Noro Salon), Haruka Tazaki, Magaly Cochachi and Mariko Tou who have helped AsianInNY’s numerous shows.  We can’t thank you enough to make us all look so pretty on the stage!

Besides, thanks to our fashion show director Alice Chin who spent weeks working on model casting and organizing these shows for us. We love ya!

The Lunar New Year is a joyous occasion of enormous proportions in Asian culture. To celebrate, people surround themselves with good music, food, and company!  AsianInNY hosted a festive celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 11th, 2012 at Bennett Media Studio that drew more than 400 attendees.

A night of non-stop entertainment:

On Nov 19th late night, AsianInNY co-hosted the 2nd Annual Hello Taiwan Rocks! and welcomed hundreds of fans at Taiwan Center in Flushing New York.  Many people attended the concert where they not only got to enjoy some rock music but they also got to taste many delicious Taiwanese popular snacks including sweet sausage, pig blood cake and bubble tea.  Besides, the iconic drink of Taiwan culture, Taiwan Beer also sponsored the entire event.
“Hello Taiwan Rocks!” organizers including AsianInNY.com, Passport to Taiwan Festival, and Tai-Ke New York spent a lot of time and efforts in putting this event together at the Taiwan Center located in Flushing New York to wish to provide an opportunity for the indie bands to showcase their music and for the younger generation to unite, celebrate and network.  During the concert night, there were many special guests who showed up to support the event including representatives of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York and and Cultural Center of TECO-NY.

The event provided a platform for the bands to perform while the fans got to listen to many amazing Taiwanese bands perform for a night of rock-and-roll, a cultural night to promote Taiwan and also an opportunity to get together before the Thanksgiving festivities.

This year the organizers introduced four terrific bands,  they are Coda Resistance, Bikini Carwash, Exit Clov and Torpid May.  The four bands totally brought down the house and gave the audience an unforgettable night to remember!

Amazing photographer Corky Lee documented AsianInNY’s Moon Festival celebration in New York City! 

Corky has covered the day-to-day lives of Asian Pacific Americans, and he’s been there to capture some historical moments in American history. For over 30 years, Corky has used his camera to ensure that the faces of Asian Pacific Americans and their experiences be included in American history.

His mission has been to document the incredibly diverse Asian American communities ignored by mainstream media. We’re so  honored to have Corky that night to support all the amazing Asian talents!  Thank you Corky!!

AsianInNY hosted a grand celebration of Moon Festival in New York City!

AsianInNY partnered with Manhattan Portage, an internationally known brand with quality bags made in Taiwan, and Onassis Clothing, a global lifestyle menswear brand with impeccable Japanese aesthetics, to showcase their designs on a runway fashion show. There was also a fashion show featuring pieces from the CODY SAI Collection, a featured designer on NHK World TV (BBC of Japan) as one of the next emerging Asian designers coming out of New York City.

Stand-up comedian Air Tabigue was the MC for the night’s festivities. Tabigue has appeared on NBC, FOX and has hosted of Asian America on PBS covering talented Asian-American artists in entertainment. To set the party mood was DJ J4. With 4 rap albums released in Taiwan, J4 has made a name for himself by playing an ever-growing role in the field of Taiwan Hip Hop.  Guests also got to enjoy a spectacular performance by pianist Vivian Fang Liu, who has performed in many venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall and Hilton Grand Theatre, just to name a few. Vocalist Baiyu who has been featured in Celebuzz, MTVIggy and SoulTrain.com also performed her 2011 single “Together”, which just premiered on MTV Networks via their marquee programming.

Also in the line-up of events was a dance performance by J Chen Project, a New York-based dance company founded in 2008 under the direction of Jessica Chen. Chen recently choreographed a production representing the USA Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo. Additionally, guests had a chance to see the live performance by Coda Resistance, a band blending the best parts of Indie-Punk & Modern Rock with socially conscious lyrics.
